Carp Fishing

We have an amazing Carp fishery at Birch Bend Resort in the Kawarthas. Anglers have come from Europe, Scotland, and England. Our swims are located literally feet from your cottage front door. Twenty, thirty and forty pound “wild, curtained” mirror and common carp have been recorded here and speculation has it that fifty pounders are out there as well!

Our private baited swims will get you catching fish soon after your arrival and we provide a boat for continued baiting at no charge. There is a bait store 10 minutes away that can provide all your needs. If desired we can have your bait order on site upon your arrival. As well, because the cottages are so close to the swims, night fishing is a popular activity.

Birch Bend is located 1.5 hours away from Toronto International Airport in a chain of connecting lakes and rivers known as the Trent Severn Waterway System in an area of the province known as the Kawarthas. We are located at the north end of Chemong Lake which is eighteen miles long. Our lake is connected to two other equally large lakes which altogether represent approximately 200 square miles of continuous water. Even with this expansive lake system, a “busy traffic day” on the water might consist of a total of 12 boats!

Our self catering one and two bedroom fully equipped cottages are clean, spacious and comfortable. Please refer to the “Our Cottages” section on the website for more detailed and individual overviews. Birch Bend sits on 3.5 acres and has over 600 feet of shoreline with most cottages located right at the lakeshore. The scenery is inspiring and the sunsets are a sight to behold.

There are an abundance of restaurants in the immediate area as well as other interesting attractions, sites and things to do. Peterborough, a city of 75,000, is 15 minutes away. Lakefield a town of 2,000 is 10 minutes away & the village of Buckhorn is 5 minutes down the highway.

Our rates are usually based on a weekly basis however we are flexible in the prime carp fishing months of May-June, September-October in order to fit your timeframe needs. During these times the weather is cooler (it gets into the 80’s & 90’s during July & August) and there are no bugs.

So, if you would like to do battle with some hard fighting, beautifully conditioned carp in a tranquil setting, then Birch Bend Cottage Resort could be just the place for you. The fishing isn’t difficult, so both expert, and novice can take multiple catches, with the chance of a real biggie!!

Complicated baits and rigs aren’t necessary, and a simple approach is all that is needed for success. Night fishing can be very productive, but plenty of fish are taken in daylight hours, when conditions are favourable. The possibilities are endless so, if carp are your quarry, then come and have a go, you won’t be disappointed!
